This assignment highlights the power of desktop mapping. MapInfo’s strength lies in its ability to combine maps, graphs and charts into an easy to understand format that depicts alternative scenarios quickly and easily. The consulting company has been hired by Wheelhouse Real Pizza Incorporated to analyze the market coverage provided by three stores in the Nepean area. A decision has to be made about whether the current coverage is the best or are other alternatives better. The final decision is based on the analysis and recommendations provided.

Objectives:
  • Ensure the data set is as accurate as possible.
  • Set up buffers and analyze the market coverage provided by the pizza outlets in the area.
  • Show and support with evidence the best way to serve the area. with:

A) 4 stores

B) 3 stores as they are

C) close one and open another in the same general area.

Requirements:
  1. Set up radius buffers of 0.250 kilometres and analyze the demographics within the buffer zones.
  2. Alter the current store locations to optimize coverage. This may involve re-locating an existing store, sticking with three or adding a fourth?
Purpose:

Use spatial analysis, so that site optimization for the client’s new store is a 'no-brainer'. This begins with an analysis of the demographics in the area covered by the three current Wheelhouse Real Pizza stores. This will allow you to evaluate the current situation and look for ways to improve upon it if possible. Similar radius buffers were used by the company to locate the stores initially.
